We have been made aware of a potential safety situation involving “a seller” trying to take advantage of female REALTORS® in the Sarasota and Manatee area. This property seller has a home listed that was not yet on the MLS and is continuing to interview female agents to list the property. The owner has even gone as far as propositioning potential agents for special favors. In this competitive market with extremely low inventory, it can be easy to get caught up in the moment and let your guard down, especially when it comes to meeting strangers. That’s why it is important for all of us to work together and make sure the safety of REALTORS® is always foremost in how we approach our work.
We encourage all brokers and managers to share these safety tips with their agents and even come up with their own safety plans and procedures. For more REALTOR® safety information go to https://www.nar.realtor/safety
We encourage all agents to have an emergency contact that knows their schedule and location, and that you can call if a situation doesn’t feel right.
If you feel like you are in immediate danger, don’t hesitate to call 911.
Stay safe and watch out for one another.
