The REALTOR® Association of Sarasota and Manatee (RASM) proudly participated in five impactful volunteer events during NAR’s REALTOR® Volunteer Days, held May 10–18. Organized by the RASM Community Outreach Committee, the weeklong initiative brought over 40 RASM members together to support local nonprofits and give back to the communities they serve.
“These events were about more than volunteering—they were about stepping up, coming together, and showing that REALTORS® are deeply invested in the places we call home,” said Christy Walters, Chair of the RASM Community Outreach Committee.
The week included:
• Harvest House (May 12): Volunteers painted the interior of a transitional home to prepare it for a new family moving in.
• Big Cat Habitat (May 13): Members cleaned and restored landscaping areas damaged by last year’s hurricanes.
• Salvation Army Sarasota (May 14): Participants helped reorganize and clean out storage closets at the shelter.
• Habitat for Humanity Sarasota (May 15): REALTORS® installed ceiling fans, hung blinds, and screened a porch on a nearly completed home funded in part by a RASM REALTORS® Charitable Foundation grant in 2024. The home will soon welcome a single mother and her three children.
• Heroes Welcome Home/SRQ Vets (May 16): In a powerful community effort, members assisted a 95-year-old veteran facing HOA fines due to physical limitations. RASM volunteers handled landscaping, while Habitat for Humanity Sarasota stepped in to repaint the home.
Committee members Gemma Hobbs and Jenni Burnette were instrumental in organizing the week’s activities under Walters’ leadership.
“I am deeply inspired by the dedication of our committee members—prioritizing community needs, fostering partnerships, brainstorming together, and creating opportunities for all of us at RASM to unite and make a meaningful impact,” added Walters.
