Stay Alert: Protect Yourself from Email Scams

Posted by: Communications Department on Thursday, December 12, 2024

Recently, several members of the REALTOR® Association of Sarasota and Manatee (RASM) reported receiving an email scam that falsely claimed to be from Tony Barrett, 2024 RASM President. The email requested assistance with handling an operating expense on behalf of the association. Please note that this solicitation is NOT from RASM or Tony Barrett.

This incident serves as an important reminder to stay vigilant against email and online fraud. Cybercriminals often use sophisticated tactics to appear credible, so it's crucial to verify any unexpected or suspicious messages before taking action.

The National Association of REALTORS® provides resources to help members understand and guard against cybersecurity threats, including tips for identifying scams and best practices for staying safe online.

If you ever receive a suspicious email claiming to be from RASM or its representatives, do not respond or click any links. Instead, contact us directly at (941) 952-3400 to verify its authenticity.

Your awareness and caution play a key role in protecting yourself and others from cyber fraud. Stay informed, and stay safe!
