Booklet with Safety Procedures

We’ve recently received a report from a member that serves as an important reminder: personal safety should always come first in your business.

As part of your membership, you have free access to FOREWARN, a valuable tool to help verify identities and gather information before engaging with new contacts. We strongly encourage all REALTORS® to use it as a first step when working with unfamiliar clients. However, tools like FOREWARN are just one part of your safety strategy, not a guarantee.

A local agent was recently contacted late at night by an individual expressing urgency to view a property. During their exchange, the individual’s messages became increasingly aggressive and agitated. Trusting her instincts, the agent ended the conversation and blocked the number. She later discovered through social media that this individual may be using multiple names and contacting agents in similar ways.

Situations like this reinforce a few key safety practices:

  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is.
  • Avoid meeting unknown clients alone, especially under urgent or unusual circumstances.
  • Verify identities through multiple sources whenever possible.
  • Keep colleagues or your office informed of your appointments.

Your safety is non-negotiable. Stay vigilant, stay informed, and look out for one another.
