NAR Requirements & Code of Ethics
REALTORS® Must Complete Training Every Three Years
Existing REALTOR® members must complete 2.5 hours of ethics training, meeting specific learning objectives and criteria, within three-year cycles. And starting in 2025, existing members must now complete two hours of fair housing training every three years as a condition of REALTOR® membership.

For Existing Members
CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING
REALTORS® are required to complete ethics training of not less than 2 hours, 30 minutes of instructional time within a three-year cycle. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by NAR.
Cycle Dates
- Cycle 6 began on January 1, 2019 and ended on December 31, 2021
- Cycle 7 began on January 1, 2022 and will end on December 31, 2024.
- Cycle 8 begins on January 1, 2025 and ends on December 31, 2027.

- Free Online Code of Ethics Course for Existing Members
- C2EX Endorsement for Existing Members
- Ethics and Business Practices (offered by RASM or through the CE Shop)
FAIR HOUSING TRAINING
Existing members must complete two hours of fair housing training every three years as a condition of REALTOR® membership. The new requirement was approved by the NAR Board of Directors at its May 11, 2023 meeting.
Cycle Dates
The three-year cycle coincides with NAR’s existing Code of Ethics training requirement and begins in 2025.
- The first Fair Housing Training cycle begins on January 1, 2025 and ends on December 31, 2027.
Courses Satisfying Fair Housing Training
- At Home With Diversity, a course to help real estate professionals work successfully in an increasingly diverse marketplace
- Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing, a course to help real estate professionals identify and interrupt stereotypical thinking to avoid fair housing pitfalls
- Qualified equivalent courses provided by state and local associations, institutes, societies and councils, and their partnered providers
- Qualified equivalent fair housing courses approved by state licensing authorities for an existing state fair housing requirement
- Fairhaven, NAR’s online fair housing simulation, will also be updated to meet the stated learning objectives and two-hour minimum time frame so that it can be included in the list of qualifying courses and serve as the no-cost option.
Submit Your COE Certificate
If you are taking a verified ethics course that is NOT through an NAR provider, you will need to submit your certificate of course completion to RASM's Professional Development department.
CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING
All new RASM members must complete a qualified New Member Code of Ethics course within the first 3 months of joining the Association. A new member who has completed the New Member Code of Ethics Orientation shall not be required to complete additional ethics training until the next three-year cycle.
