Key Contact Program
Key Contacts (KC) make up our most critical advocacy team, opening the door and leading the way, serving as the direct contact to their personally assigned Commissioner. Key Contacts allow local officials to associate a familiar face and local identity with the issue being discussed, reinforcing the REALTOR® message on a more personal level.
Whether you have been a political junkie for many years, have a pre-existing relationship with an elected official, or are just entering the political realm, the personal relationship you develop and maintain with your Commissioner is crucial in advancing our agenda. The Government Affairs Department is constantly working to identify members that have established relations with local officials to grow a more robust Key Contact Program.

What is a Key Contact (KC)?
A REALTOR® who has a personal or professional relationship with a local elected official. The relationship is one in which the REALTOR® has a direct channel of communication with the Commissioner that will allow for a candid conversation to take place regarding a public policy issue or initiative monitored by RASM. The primary role of a Key Contact is to serve as the “voice for real estate” by communicating RASM’s agenda to the Commissioner with whom the member has a relationship.
What are the responsibilities of a Key Contact (KC)?
If there is a piece of legislation that RASM supports or opposes that involves the Key Contact’s designated elected official. RASM will ask the KC to make contact on behalf of the Association to convey the REALTOR® perspective. RASM will provide talking points beforehand and guidelines as to what the specific request is that we’re asking the KC to relay to the elected official. Below are additional ways a Key Contact can be involved to go above and beyond:
- Place a personal phone call to the Commissioner when a major issue arises
- Attend RASM’s Local Government Affairs meetings during session
- Attend local events or town hall meetings hosted by the Commissioner
- “Like” the Commissioner’s Facebook page and follow them on Twitter to receive social media updates
- Respond to all RASM, NAR and Florida REALTORS® Calls-for-Action
